The meda or grass stick is a true symbol of the peasant way of life. It consists of a central pole, a stick, usually made of chestnut, around which the dry grass from mowing accumulates, forming a circle at the base, the diameter of which decreases in height until it takes on a conical shape. It was as a storehouse for hay to feed livestock. With this arrangement, the dried grass could be kept outdoors for a long time and used as fodder in summer or periods of famine.
