Before visiting the Museum...

A visit to the Museum is something that needs to be planned in advance. We therefore propose a meeting via Teams to present the museum, the facilities, the services we offer and our programme of tours and activities for schoolchildren.

    Terms and conditions: registration is required at least two weeks in advance by sending an email to reservas@turismoycultura.asturias.es.


    How to visit the Museum in person

    School groups can choose between several options to get to know the Museum’s contents. Proposals may not be accumulated, and no more than one proposal may be made per school group and per day.

    Important information:

    • Activities available from Wednesday to Friday mornings. On request, and whenever possible, other dates and/or times adapted to the needs of the school could be agreed upon. Bookings in advance must be made at least 48 hours in advance.
    • If the school group exceeds the capacity of the selected visit or activity, please contact the Museum. Our staff will study the possible alternatives so that the whole group can take part in the activity
    • Each group must be accompanied by at least one teacher.
    • Participants: up to 50 people at a time, who may be split up at the Museum to ensure the tour runs more smoothly.
    • Activities suitable for all stages of education.
    • Although it is not essential, prior preparation in the classroom is recommended.
    • A transport quote from your place of origin can be provided by us.
    • If you’re visiting the Museum with a group of people with disabilities, you can contact the Museum to arrange for the visit to be adapted to their needs.

    Complete guided tour

    The best way to get to know the Museum. One-hour visit to the permanent exhibition, adapted to the educational level of each group. A comprehensive tour in which you can get to know the way of life of the peasant communities, their daily activities, work, trades, technology, leisure…

    Duration: approximately one hour.

    Observations: free activity in Spanish.

    Additional guided tour activities

    School groups can choose from among various options to expand their knowledge of some of the Museum's spaces with these themed guided tours or demonstrations of traditional crafts.

    The stores of the peasant’s house: granaries, bread stores and huts

    A 45-minute thematic guided tour for all audiences on traditional storage structures, based on the hórreo, the panera and the cabazo of the Museum. Pupils will learn how these structures were built and why, their differences and what products were stored in these storage structures, which today form part of our cultural heritage. At the end of the visit, students will be given a cut-out to build a granary with which they will be able to strengthen the knowledge acquired in the classroom.

    Water-powered mills: the flourmill

    Thematic guided tour lasting 45 minutes for all educational levels. Pupils will learn about how water is utilised, its various uses and the main devices that relied on water to operate, particularly focusing on the Museum’s water-powered flour mill, which can be seen in operation. The visit will also explore the importance of bread in rural households and all the tasks and processes involved in its production, from sowing the grain to the end product.

    Wood and its uses: woodturning demonstrations

    Themed visit + activity, lasting one hour, for all educational levels Students will learn to differentiate the main types of wood, what its uses were and the main trades that were generated around its manipulation and transformation. It includes an explanatory tour of the Rectory’s Wood Room, a participative game of wood identification and an explanatory demonstration of how the half-turn lathe works, one of the region's most characteristic woodworking tools.

    On request, we design personalised activities adapted to the subject matter and contents proposed by the centres.

     


    Teaching materials

    The Museum has two cut-out sheets that can be used to assemble a granary or a country cart. A way of getting to know by building two of the most characteristic elements of country houses.
