04.- Model of the mill

The iron industry developed greatly in western Asturias, especially from the 17th and 18th centuries onwards, when the use of the water wheel became widespread. The iron transformation process began in the ferrerías, where the iron ore was smelted and bars were obtained. These bars were handled in the mills, where they were stretched, thinned or widened in order to be worked and finally passed to the ferreiro workshop, the forxa (forge), where the tools and final products were made. Mazo is the name given to both the large mallet for beating iron and the mill that houses it.
